1086 gas cap

I don"t think so.
The 806 and the 656 should be the same cap but I don"t think they will fit the 1086.

(quoted from post at 19:01:24 11/27/10) Hey guys, Is the gas cap off of an 806 interchangeable with a 1086? Or maybe with a 656?

Thanks,

Cole

If I'm reading my catalog right, the fuel caps are pretty much interchangeable all the way from the letter series Farmalls up through the 1066, but there must have been a change after that.

Rusty if you put a standard "tall" gas cap off a 1066 on a 1086 the rear cab window will not open.

The 1086 takes a low profile cap.

Diameter is the same I believe.

The aftermarket caps that I was looking at were of the low profile variety and they are listed as fitting up to the 1066 as well as a whole host of combines, but the 1086 is not listed, so I assume there is something else different? I really don't know, and I won't even pretend to be an expert.

Yep,

However, think as far as fitting the tank neck, all those old binders' caps will interchange from about 1947 forward.

Trucks to tractors to pickups to machinery. :>)

I lost the cap on my 886 this Fall, and I had an extra one for an M on the shelf. It fits fine, but the back window will not open due to the taller cap. I'll have to get a low height one by spring I guess.

Thank you for that input. Good to know.

For what it's worth, the IH fuel caps will interchange across several different BRANDS of machinery also.

86 series fuel tank cap has no breather hole in it as the tank vents through the tube off top of fuel gauge sending unit with a hose that loops up inside of cab leg.
