Installing Engine Dowel Pins

I found some posts about removing the dowel pins in the rear engine plate to clutch housing but my problem is getting em back in- I bought this 300 U and somewhere somehow it lost the pins at the rear of the engine block, just gone and losing all kind of oil. So I found a couple of salvage pins- Problem is the Dowel holes in the block are about 10 thou tighter than the holes in the clutch housing. Don't want to drive them in and crack the block. Are they the same dowels? Should I just lap down the two I bought?? I suspect the ole boy I got it from just plugged it with something handy, didn't leak at first.

.003 to .004 interference is all I would drive in. Center grind them or lap to size. I would be very cautious of .010" interference. Jim
