Super C battery cables

Have a SC converted to 12v. Need a new pos. battery cable. What do you all reccomend for what size gage to get
Thanks

If it was converted to 12 volts but you kept the 6 volt starter, Bob M and I had opinions on this a good while back, BUT WE BOTH AGREED ON EITHER BEING A GOOD THING TO DO.

I'd EITHER use lighter gauge, say No 4, battery cables ORRRRRRRR use a lighter duty smaller CCA battery SO AS TO DROP A BIT OF VOLTAGE TO REDUCE SUCH A RAPID HIGH TORQUE KICK IN TO PROTECT THE STARTER DRIVE AND/OR FLYWHEELT RING TEETH. Even a smaller battery or 4 gauge cables will still crank a little C plenty fast enough when 12 is applied to a 6 volt starter.

When you apply 12 volts to a 6 volt stater sure she spins good n fast (and Ive done it n never had any problems) but it can be a bit tough on "some" types of starter drives. The use of a lighter less CCA battery or smaller gauge cables can lessen that problem.

Usually for 6 volt with 6 volt batteries I recommend 0 or 00 gauge cables TO LESSEN VOLTAGE DROP but 12 votls on a 6 volt starter is a bit different. BUTTTTTTTTTTTTT if the starter was converetd to 12 volts, then Id go ahead and opt for say 1 gauge cables on a C, bigger if an M.

Thats my story (opinion) n Ima stickin to it

Thanks for the info, i do not know if the starter was converted, is there a easy way for me to check
Thanks

If the starter had any sort of tag one might trace it down to 6 or 12 volt but even thats no guarantee a shop might have converted it. If I was a gambler Id bet it never got changed or converted and can only say from experience, which just cant be accurately described over the net, if it spins really realy fast and kicks in hard its likely a 6 volt starter. Heck if you use say a 2 gauge Cable youre sort of splitting the difference and couldnt go to wrong regardless of what Jim or Bob or myself advise, I just would NOT use a real high 1000 CCA battery, Id venture to say a 525 CCA is plenty..... It will work with a 4 gauge cable n it will work with a 1 gauge, a No 2 is a good medium guess not knowing all the particulars

Thanks for the info, im also guessing the starter has not been converted, it does have a smae old battery and it cranks fast
have a good day

I use #4 on my C & SC. I did have the starters rebuilt and replaced the spring type bendix drive with a clutch type so it doesn't hit so hard. I do use a the smallest CCA and cheapest NAPA battery. Works great.
