Hello. I have heard that during WWII the Farmall A had a different gear shift knob. Was it cast iron? Do you all have that part number? How was it attached to the shift lever. THANKS ALL

I know wartime H's and M's came with a threaded-on cast iron knob, due to rubber being needed for the war effort.

Just curious, what's the part number going to get you? You can't get replacement cast iron shift knobs from any source as replacement parts.

I have a 1944 A with a cast knob. it is in storage right now, but next time I am there in a week or two, I will get the part number off of it.

I think since the rubber ones were all the same, i would expect the cast ones to be the same. Will find out soon.

I looked today, and my 1946 Farmall A has the cast iron gearshift knob as well!!! Didn't see a part # though.

My 1945 B has the cast shift knob. It has the old IHC logo on it with the numbers 9637D stamped/cast into it.

I've never taken mine off but I understand that the WWII knobs were threaded on.

Oddly my 1945 H has the rubber shift knob, no threads. Must have been built far enough apart that there was no longer the rubber shortage or IH used up all it's cast shift knobs.

If you're wanting to purchase one they occasionally show up on eBay. Otherwise your best bet it walking the salvage yards.
