Farmall H spark plugs

I recently removed the spark plugs from my Farmall H. When I got them out I noticed they had small extension looking things on the end that threads into the head. The head has been replaced at some point so I was thinking that for some reason the spark was to hot for the piston so they had to put these extensions on to prevent damage to the piston. I have asked multiple people and no one seems to know what the purpose of them are. If you have any info it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Those look like the adapters that are sold to Ford Model T owners so they can use standard size spark plugs. Plugs for Model T s run form $5.00 to $25.00 each depending on how authentic you want your car.
So standard size plugs in the same heat range are used to save money. That may be what happened to your tractor.
You can use one of those adapters on a compression guage since they don t come with fittings for the large threads.
 
Extensions used to be available to put on spark plugs that were supposedly to eliminate fouling of the plug from oil. They were commonly seen in J.C. Whitney catalogs. I've never seen them in person, so I can't say if they look like like what you have or not. Just an idea???
 
When I worked at the Ford tractor shop, we used to use them on the 8,9,2, n tractors when they would start fouling out never had any problems withthem Good Luck Kenny
 
I agree, they are non-foulers. A poor man's way of accomplishing the same thing is to simply pull the wire off the plug about 1/2". that is, if your end caps are tight fitting.

If the tractor runs well and does not smoke or use oil, the anti-fouler adapters are not needed at all. They lower the compression some, and are not as well positioned for initiating the flame front in the chamber. Though OK to reduce oil fouling, if the tractor has been running well I would take them out. Jim
