Farmall 560D batteries

I have a Farmall 560D that has only one battery. I know they came with two originally. How would I go about hooking up the second one? Any help would be greatly appreciated

If you are using two 12 Volts, Pos cable to Pos and neg to Neg will still give you 12 volts. Two 6 volts, Pos from one battery to Neg on the other will give you 12 volts. (Pos to the starter, Neg to ground and then hook up the other battery as needed.)

Follow the link below to the wiring diagrams for the 60 series. Bermuda Ken, author (and counterman) extraordinaire, provided the link to all sorts of IH wiring diagrams, with the blessings of Carter and Gruenewald.

The 560D is on pages 5 and 6 in the link. To my eye the batteries look to be hooked up in series, negative ground.
60 Series wiring

The 60 series wiring shows two six volt batteries wired in series to produce twelve volts. This same scheme was used in the John Deere 50, 60, and 70 tractors using rather large batteries. The JD's could accomodate a large (1200 CCA) 12V battery in the battery compartment (under the seat cushion). I had a JD model 50 with the aforementioned battery. It would really spin it over. A smaller 500-600 CCA battery just did not have the power. My brother has a 560D I am trying to get the loan of and I could see where there would be a problem trying to manuever a large battery into the battery compartment. If I get it I plan to use two six volt batteries as large as will fit in the tray.

I've got a 460D, just put in 1 big 12volt for a semi. Don't remember the group number, but I converted the cables to stud mounts. No more slow starts! Also I heard you can use a 1466 starter on a 560, can,t on a 460 due to bellhousing being smaller.

I would stay with the one12 volt. Only have to by one battery for 12v two for 6 volt and each 6 v will cost about the same as one 12. So 50% less cost and if your tractor starts like it is supposed to you will have no prblems. Used 12v on both my 900B (diesels)cases for years.

I have a Case 1030D that I have been running with one 12v with no problem.
If your starter is in good shape one large cca 12v will work fine.
Keep all connections "Bright and Tight".
