H Farmall platform

Rowdy, according to my H parts catalog the top cover changed at s/n 15698 so that would have been around the first quarter of 1940 as around 40,000 H's were made that year. Hope this helps, Hal.

Most are 1939 but there are a few 40s out there also.I have and orginal in picture add if you would like to look at one. They also bolted on with on bolt in center instead of to bolts on each side like most H M seats.

I'd like to see the picture. Always been curious what they looked like.

Not wanting to hijack this thread, but what about the differences in the early H and late SH with the battery box under the seat.

I have not been able to compare these, but wonder how much different they are. And if an H platform could be adapted to a late SH with battery box under the seat.

You may need to drill and tap the bolt holes for the battery box, but other than that, I think they are the same. Other opinions are needed.

The covers for the non-slot have the same part # for the H and Stage 1 and 2 Super H. There may be some difference in the length of the bolts, you can look at the parts section of www.caseih.com. And I could swear that when I "restored" my Super H that there were one or two bolts inside the battery box that I had trouble getting out and had to retap. The shift levers have different part numbers for the Stage 1 and 2, probably because the battery box is very close. Mine does hit the box in third when pulled all the way back, I believe.

After slot tops some H tops only had 2 bolt holes for seat mounting, most have 4. Production stage 2 SH tops didn"t have the holes drilled for brake covers and wire harness clips to the rear light. Most H tops would work on a SH. Battery box bolts to 2 of the seat mounting holes and the rear 2 use the top cover mount bolts.
Strange thing on the tops is IH parts shows the stage 2 SH top as a 4 digit part followed by letters. All I ever saw have a 6 digit # followed by a R# on them. Same thing on SM tractors through SMTA when 6 digit # tops showed up back on late M tractors.
