Will orig 6 volt Ammeter work with the 12 volt alternator???

Was wondering if I converted the original 6 volt generator system on a Cub to 12 volt alternator if the original style ammeter with the IH logo would work with the conversion. I would like to know before I potentially damage a good working original gauge. If it will work, are there any specaial ways to wire it up to work with the 12 volt system. THanks and all help is greatly appreciated.

I do not think it will, but could be wrong. My H is the only 12v tractor I own, and I know my original IH ammeter does not work on it. Could just be a bad gauge I suspose, but they work fine on my other three 6v tractors.

There's no such thing as a "6 Volt" ammeter. It's just an ammeter.

Faster346, if yours doesn't work, then it's either wired incorrectly, or it's broken as you suspect, OR your alternator is not charging.
