Trans. fluid

I replaced the trans fluid in my A with some Super Tech Heavy Duty Transmission and Hydraulic oil. It seemed a little thin to me. I found the comparable spec on the jug. It says it meets CIH MS-1207. I am sure this will be fine but since its cold outside I figured I would ask anyhow. What's your thoughts? Thanks in advance!!

UTF will be just fine. Now ya it is thinner then the 80W-90 that is called for but now days the UTF is made to replace the old heavy stuff and fill the gap as both a hyd fluid and a gear lube

Thanks, I figured it would be fine but it never hurts to double check. I think next spring I will replace it with gear lube.

You are better off with 90W or 85W140 or even straight 140 (perhaps a little heavy for winter) With the thinner oil you are inviting leaks and excessive gear clash when shifting, which is bad enough already.

Exactly. The tractors that call for the more modern fluids have different bearings and gearing than what the old Farmalls have. The newer tractors are engineered so that the universal trans/hydraulic fluids will work, because that huge trans/rearend housing makes an excellent reservoir for the hydraulic fluid

This is one situation where the 80w/90 called out for in your owners manual is STILL the best oil that you can get for that application. Probably no danage will occur if you leave the universal stuff in there, but it still is not the best.

I did notice that it took longer for the gears to stop in the A compared to my B which still has the "mystery oil" in it. Not gotten around to changing that yet. I will definitely change it out this spring with the heavier gear oil.
