how to search?

hey guy's i am trying to gain as much knowledge on my 300u's steering box and i know its been talked about here a million times, but can't seem to find much when doing a search, can someone give me the specific's on doing a search on this great forum.....thanks in advance

The best way to search this forum is from the address bar. The more words that you think might come up in what you want the better. Part numbers are good to search for too.

I AM too sharp on this stuff and I don't know what he's talking about either.

All you can do with the searches is keep trying different things.

It's not you, it's everyone else.

We don't all use the same words the same way to describe things. You might say "300U" but someone else might say "300 U" or "300 Utility" or "International 300" for example.

People don't always spell things correctly. "steering" vs. "stearing" or "sterring" for example.

You just have to brainstorm as many ways as you can think of for people to screw things up, and try them in searches.

My favorite way is not to use the site to search at all. I use a search engine like Google which will pull up hits from posts on this site and others besides. Works very well for me!

it's the line up at the top where the address to the page you are on is. Click on the address and it will highlight. Then just type in what you want to search for. Remember, what you are searching for is specific words on a web page, NOT topics or abstract ideas. Once you type in your words tap the "enter" key and your browser will use it's default search engine (Google for example)It just saves the extra step of going to the search engine site first. I might be 56 years old but I have learned a few tricks about using the web. Those that keep repeating the same old steps never learn anything.

Cowman, not all web browsers work that way.

On mine, if I type in anything but a website address, it sits there for 2-3 minutes then tells me "Not Found."

In IE you can change the settings. Tools, internet options, click on the "advanced" tab. I don't know about other browsers but I use Google Chrome and Firefox and it works with them. Firefox uses Bing and the Chrome defaaults to Google.

Windows XP works that way, I didn't know that until I tried it last night. Just type in Farmall M by itself instead of a web address.

XP PRO has an address bar and to the right a search bar.
Both default to Bing search and search the entire internet.
Both come up with the same results.
If you want to confine your search to this site then use the site search prompts which are simple and basic.
Like all searches, changing keywords well affect results.
