Farmall C coolant questions

Getting ready to fire my Farmall C restoration up for the first time. Couple questions, does this tractor just use any sort of Automotive Antifreeze, or is there something special needed for this tractor? Also is there any certain way to fill the system? I know it does not have a water pump, and is a non pressurized system, so I didn't know if it should be running or if there's any sort of certain precedure for adding coolant to this tractor without getting air in the system. Thanks!!

I don't know off hand what the capacity is, but in general, pour in slightly over one half the capacity using common, ordinary, basic anti-freeze, and then finish filling it up with water. Make sure the anti-freeze you buy is NOT the pre-mixed variety. You could also mix the anti-freeze and water 50/50 before you pour it in. Start the engine and watch the coolant level in the radiator, and add more if needed. Any air in the system will find its own way out.

Why add a pump? The thermosiphon system is extremely efficient and effective as long as the coolant level is kept in check. Adding a water pump just adds to maintance and repairs. My 2 cents.

Why a water pump? It was designed to operate without one. If you were working the snot out of it on a hot (95+) day then you may have problems. If you cleaned the radiator and the water ports in the block during restoration then you shouldn't have any issues.
