Hydro Tractor For Mowing

I use a 706 & 10' batwing to mow various properties over the summer for a little extra $$. Last weekend when I used it, I got to thinking about maybe trading it for a hydro tractor. The 706 is 90% of the time a mowing tractor. Would a 656 hydro be a fair replacement? Keep in mind most places I mow once a year will bog down that 706 pretty hard. The other question is would a 826 be too much tractor? I know it'd have the same motor (310) as mine, but what would the fuel consumption difference be? I think maybe a hydro 86 had the 310 as well? I think I could get 5,000 for the 706, so that'd be the budget for the hydro. Can I get a decent hydro for 5K, or am I asking for problems?

There are advantages to having readily variable ground speed. Is that small advantage worth the lesser efficiency of the Hydro, and the cost differential of the trade, and the complexity of repair if ever needed. It would not be to me for your mowing task. If on a baler, or chopper, or loader, no question it would be best to trade. Jim

Let me know where you can get $5K for a 706 and I'll start haulin' 'em in to ya. :>)

Second, let me know where you can buy decent Hydros for that kind of money and I'll backhaul until the supply runs out. :>)

'Round here, the 706 would bring maybe $2500-3000 and a good Hydro will cost ya $7-10K for a small frame tractor.

Besides, it sounds like ya need the bigger Hydro 100 or 186 for that batwing and they'll run an easy $10-15K.
