674 FUEL PUMP ISSUE

bought a 674 not running.with alleged fuel pump issues. I found the problem was a sheared key in the inj pump. I wasn't too concerned because I have a burned 685 with identical pump.changed it out and was sure it would run but not so fast..no fuel delivery to injectors...getting fuel to pump,it is turning, and fuel to return line just as if shutoff was pulled but its not ...any ideas???

Hi Jimmy, try pressurizing the fuel tank with an air gun and a clean cloth stuck in the tank filler.
I assume you have the STOP/START/RUN control cable adjusted properly. Was the static timing adjusted? Although this will not cause the pump from pushing fuel to the injectors, only causes starting and running problems.

It is a little late for this now, but what I like to do with a pump that has been sitting around for quite a while or just been taken apart but not run on a test bench, is to temporily mount it to side of tractor frame and hook all fuel lines up and turn it over with a speed hand wrench to work the fuel through it. That can get them ornery ones primed up and save a lot of starter and battery plus prove it will pump and shut off as well.

thanks for the advise. I'll try putting a little air behind the fuel and pressurize some...willing to try anything short of sending it to a diesel shop (cheap you know) where it could easily cost more to fix it than the whole tractor is worth. think I'm gonna take the siezed 1 apart just to see what i can see
