I have some questions about my 52 H.i noticed the fan belt needs replaced, the starting crank ratchet is almost touching the crank pulley and seems to be stuck ln place, there is no way you could get the belt between them.is this a common problem? this h has an add on live hydraulic pump,i have been told that because of this,i need to use modern hydraulic oil such as hy-tran instead of 30 wt. non detergent oil. is this true? i am familiar with f-series,but this H is new to me. thanks Jim iowa.

Those hand crank sleeves can be hard to move after nearly 60 years of neglect. Even when the bolster is separated from the tractor, they can try one's patience. I've freed several and used heat and oil. There is a good chance that the fan belt is original.

If you want a quick solution, you have two options. Destroy the sleeve with a hammer or sawsall or both. The other option is to use a linked V-belt that is widely available. Goto McMaster-Carr if you are not familiar with them. Each link adds about 3/4" of length to the finished belt. Each link has one rivet that penetrates two more links ahead of it. They are entirely serviceable as a fan belt. I have seen a number of Farmalls with them.

You can use HyTran if you want, the pump does not care, I use 30W for the M&W pump on mine.
