Cub won't stay in first gear

I recently acquired a 1962 Cub and it has a tendancy to pop out of first gear. The ball on the bottom of the shift lever has been brazed and ground kinda round to repair. Any ideas as to what my problem might be? Thanks

Four things that are in the mix of potential causes:
Worn gear teeth from some one grinding it into gear.
Replace the gears on both the countershaft, and main shaft.
Worn bearing between input shaft and output shaft on the main (top shaft) or worn front or rear main trans bearing.
Broken or week detent ball and spring in shift rails. (easiest to get at and fix)
Bent shifter fork, not allowing full gear mesh. Also modestly easy with the removal of the cover. Jim

When my 154 was doing that, it was the something with the cup up inside the shifter. I dont recall what it was exactly wrong in there now.
