IH Farmall Need help with id and hydraulic filter

My father has an older IH Farmall tractor. You can not read the serial or model number. It has high front wheels that are farther apart. He needs to try to figure out the model so we can order a hydrauclic filter. UNLESS someone has an idea on how to make one or clean the old one? HAve photos

That appears to be a 460. It might be a 560 but the filters are the same. The filter is behind a six sided plate on the right side of the clutch housing. The plate is slightly larger than a butter plate. The element is not cleanable. You will probably have to go to a CaseIH dealer.

It is a 404 or similar Farmall (a derivative of the C series tractor. It has the Hydraulic pump below the governor and ignition. It is a small frame tractor, Not middle 460 or large, 560 series.

Could this be a 100, 130, 300, 350, or a 504? It must be the hi-clear or row crop tractor. The front wheels are far apart, not close together and the front grill is flat, not rounded. The 300 hydraulic system has the side opening for the filter like his tracator. Is the part I am looking for called a filter or sprainer? I have two part numbers from the hydraulic pump (maybe) 366583-R1 (right side) and 3651456-R1 from the left. He uses either a #2006 or 3006 spark plugs and #135 oil filter (but I am assuming these parts were used in many models),

I really appreciate everyones help so far!
Karen

Could this be a 100, 130, 300, 350, or a 504? no. it is a farmall (row crop) tractor with a wide front.
it is definitely of the 40/60 series; they had horizontal grille bars. if it has 4 cylinder engine, 4 speeds forward and 1 reverse, it is a 240. 4 cyl, 5 forward and 1 reverse, it is a 340. both the 240 and 340 had 36" back tires. the 460 and 560 had 38" back tires and 6 cylinder engines.
from the way the front end sits higher than the back, i'd say it is a farmall 340. they tended to look that way with a wide front, moreso than other models.
what you are holding in the bottom pictures is a filter. some tractors earlier than yours used a cleanable strainer. you would want a new filter. it should be available from caseih or napa.

Looks like a 340 Farmall to me... definately not big enough for a 460 and looks too big for a 240.

No, it is a 240, not 340. Look at the implement pads on the bell housing, the hex rear axle housings, the non-dished rear wheel centers, etc. etc.

You are correct of course. I wondered how you saw all that detail in THE picture but went back and realize there are a whole bunch of pictures, not just one

I went thru the caseih online catalog for the 340 hydraulic section and can not find any drawing that shows a filter like the one I am looking to replace for Dad. Am I looking for the wrong thing or in the wrong section. I BELIEVE that it fits into the side of the hydraulic pump like 211 or 231(A) in the hydraulic section of the caseih parts catalog. I have tried a dealer and they could not / would not help without a model number.

Thanks again for your help. All of you know much more than I do about tractors! KAren

I also checked the 240 model hydraulic parts and on the 261 hydraulic system parts 4 and 5 look close--but the filter i have has metal top/bottom with some sort of filter material. Dad's is one piece and measures 2 inches across and 4 inches long. THanks again. KAren

Those are the parts my 240 parts book shows. It actually shows an "assembly" #374 983 R91 that works for both of the hydraulic systems shown. Maybe yours had something substituted for the IH part in the past.... possibly an updated part #. You must have the Hydra-Touch system since there is no Fast Hitch.
I have a 240U, but [u:09cb6ef877]that part of the system[/u:09cb6ef877] is the same on the utility International and row crop Farmall.

The 240s came with 2 different filtering designs. Both are shown in figure 261. The early style was just a strainer (item 25). Later ones used a tandem strainer and filter (items 1 through 5) in place of the older style strainer. The set of item 1 through 5 were available as a package to change from the earlier to the later. It is listed along with figure 261 at the bottom with no reference number. That is the number (374 983 R91) that IH Fan quoted. The filter element (item 4) is part number 375 078 R91.

The filter in your picture looks to me like the filter in the later system. Look very closely at the metal plates on each end of your filter. You will probably be able to find the part number stramped into one end or the other.

Me thinks you have the Farmall 240; the 60 series has frame rails. Peek at the photo I found in the "Tractor Photos" using the "search for" dialog box and entering 240. Putting in new hytran fluid is a three-hand job as fill plug is below the gas tank. Good luck w/your project.
