I'm going to go look at a B450 as a potential next project. It is complete except the starter is missing. Apparently the starter failed and the repair shop went broke and the starter is gone. Any body have a starter or know where to get one?
 
Do you plan on keeping it all original? I believe that it was posted here not long ago the the starter from a US built MD would also fit. Hopefully some one who knows for sure will add the correct answer.
 
I have never swapped to a MD starter but have been told that it will fit. While you are at it, get rid of all of the other Lucus electrical complnents and you will be happier in the long run.

According to the archives a MD starter will bolt up but not work as the ring gear on the B450 is different. I will do some more research and advise. Current owner pull started it a year ago and claims it runs good.
 
A starter from a SMD,400,450 will bolt up but IT WILL NOT work. Done been there about 35 years ago with my B450 I owned in the 1970's. I don't know if you can change the ring gear from A SMD / 450 to make it work or not?
