working thru issues on my C; carb question

Now that my starter woes have been solved (hallelujah) and I've replaced the fan hub we are in running condition. This thing has set for 2 years before me. I've only had it running (driving) a couple of times and after a few minutes in 3rd or 4th, it seems to me to start loading up or running rich and will stall. Smells flooded. I've also had it die right away kicking in the PTO. I imagine the carb is pretty well varnished up and may well have other issues. This site that hosts this forum offers carb rebuilds. Winter seems like a good time to do it, and carb rebuilds are beyond me. Can anybody give them an endorsement or otherwise advise? Thanks for all your help.

If you have never rebuilt a carburetor before - the one of your C is about the most basic carb you will find so it is a good one to try it out. Pretty sure the only thing less complicated would be an eyedropper dripping gas into the intake manifold...

With digital technology today, it costs nothing to take a bunch of pictures of everything as you are doing it - if you do not remember where something goes. And if you have an old cookie pan with a 1/2 inch lip they are great to work in when something decides to try and roll away. Just make sure it is a pan your significant other was never planning on using again.

Priority one is getting the thing clean. There are gallon cans of parts cleaners that you can buy at a FLAPS. Sometime is may take multiple cleanings. It took me four times this fall to finally get my Super C carb cleaned up where it would run without the chock being pulled out...

Be patient and make sure everything goes back together how it came apart. If you have a buddy who has done similar work before it is a good excuse to invite them over for a cold one.

Good luck
