Hyd pump output B-414 and WD-9?

I've got a couple of projects in the planning phase at the moment and could use some specs. Have a friend with a B-414 gas that could really use power steering and I'm thinking of making a backhoe for my WD-9. So does anyone know the hydraulic pump output of either? Thanks, Sam

Hi Sam, B414 hydraulic output is 6 GPM. There is a valve at front of the seat when in the SLOW setting that restricts the flow to 3pt hitch to 3 GPM.
The factory installed PS on B414 added a second hydraulic pump connected to the drive shaft of the first pump.

Hope this helps

Weren't all hydraulic pumps on WD-9 aftermarket and driven by a shaft off the front of the crankshaft? Don't think IH used the distributer pump until the SWD-9 and that was 15 gpm. Other mfgs made distributer pumps prior to that. I think they were about 10gpm

Anyway, I would power a backhoe with a crankshaft pump and almost anything would work. Just have to calculate what you need for displacement and buy the couplings and shaft from someplace like the Surplus Center.

If I were attempting something as you describe, I would adapt a hoe from a salvage yard tractor. You will get something with better steel and engineering than something homemade. Prolly be cheaper as well.

Thanks to both of you. The steering arrangement for the B-414 will be almost entirely cobbled and nowhere near perfect but it should make an otherwise unusable tractor serviceable.

As to the hoe, I am as yet undecided as to what I'm doing. I don't know how much luck I'd have finding a junk hoe and I didn't really want something quite that large. The only reason I'm thinking about the distributor pump is that (there is no pump on the '9' at the moment) I have a friend with a parts SWD-9 that I could take the pump off. Thinking I might be better off with something driven off the PTO then I can use it on any tractor and gear it up to keep the engine RPM down. Thanks, Sam
