The parts book shows Zenith 67 & 68 carb, Carter, Marvel Schebler used on 100 & 200 series.

What determined if one or the other was used ?

Is there any particular reason to run one or the other ? Have a Carter on my 100 that ran well for about 6 months since rebuild, and now is running badly. Have an extra Carter that is complete and very clean -- thinking of swapping to the Carter.

What"s your advice oldtimers ?

There is some good threads on YT on this topic if you have plenty of time to search , I've tried to use the search function with very limited success, maybe there's something I'm doing wrong , dont know.
Any carb that works is the best 1, although everyone has there favourite's.
I worked on a 1 bbl this week-end that had a carb kit put in within 5 years or so ago and roughly a hand full of common ailments they should be fairly easy to diagnose, jUST TIME consuming getting them right, and it was a carter.
Zenith are well liked also. I found removing the needle and seat and lashing them together was helpful to get a positive open and close. And also doing the same when the carb was assembled blowing air in the fuel inlet with "your pipe's" right side up... then upside down so the floats/weights close the needle in the seat and stopping the flow of fuel. Then there's bushing's ,clean passages, proper assembly, good gaskets, good floats and movement range's, and engine valve's to pull a good vaccuum through the carb. Now I'm looking for a procedure to set the valve clearance's on a 113 ci.

The choice was determined by what was available when the tractor was being assembled.

That"s what I figured, what ever was on the assembly line supply shelf got used.

Any idea if any settings are different when changing from the Zenith 61 carb to the Carter carb ?

In my opinion, the Zenith is a much better carb than the Carter ever even THOUGHT of being, but if you've already got a good Carter, might as well use it. Any carburetor will need to be fine tuned to the engine it is on.
