806 frost plug heater

my 806 has the screw in frost plugs and i would like to put a heater in one. is there any trick to get the frost plug out i doubt it will come out very easy. should i be worried about cracking the block if i heat it or put too much force on the plug?
 
Well, I would not be worried about cracking the block with some heat to remove your pipe plug. Let it cool slowly. However, I"m curious about your location. The heater on my 806D is in the 2nd or 3rd from front drive in frost plug on Injector pump side of engine. (At work we call it a welsh plug.) Why not use one of those? To remove a plug, you ought to be able to drive a punch (or screwdriver) through it, it is only aluminum, and then just pry it out. Then you can clean the hole up, and set the heater in, and tighten it up. My heater warms up the engine adequately to start it in 3-4 hours inside a building. I bought it at NAPA to replace the one that was there. I have been told the heaters were a deal from later on and they never had them originally.
 
I like the tank type heaters better than the plug type, they heat up faster and they circulate the water. It is not hard to install one on a 806.
 
Not that you have done this , but some guys mistake the plugs in the cyl head intake for coolant plugs. More opinions here also, I much prefer the frost plug heater to a tank heater as a tank type can change the balance of the coolant flow through the head. They do have a reverse check valve in them but depending on how you hook it up some flow may go through the tank heater when running, not good. I use two frost plug heaters if they are small like 600 watt and then you can plug both in if needed, especially if it sits outside.
