I took the 4 bolts out from the bearing cap and thought I should be able to pull out the axle.No such luck. I assume it is fastened somehow in the diff.If so how is it fastened and what will I have to take apart to get at it.Is there enough room if I pull the PTO to get at it . Thanks Much

You have to go into the transmission to get the axle out. It is splined to the bull gear and the bull gear is held on the axle with a big nut. I think maybe you can go in through the PTO opening at the back. However, the bull gear is very heavy and will fall down when you remove the axle. I"m not sure how you would support the bull gear through the PTO opening.

Haas is right.

Don't try to pull the pinions driving the bull gears. You have to take the rear end housing loose from the transmission housing first. Differential is on the rear of the transmission and not in the rear end housing. At least that was the situation with my W9.

IT manual was helpful, but I had it after the fact.

Go in thru pto hole, take bolt out that holds bull gear on. Make some small wooden wedges to drive under bull gear to hold it up. Unbolt axle housing and pull out.
You need to keep everything straight when pulling axle out.

I just replaced the outer oil seals, felt seals and bearings on my W6 4 months ago. Drain transmission oil. Pull the PTO out of the tractor. Remove the bolt and washer holding the bull gear on the axle. It"s the same bolt and washer as is on the other end holding the wheel on. Once you remove the bolt. pull the assembly out. You will need to heat the wheel spacer up pretty good to slide it off the axle. At first I thought it would be a hard job, but it went fairly easy. If you have any questions, just blast me an email and I"ll help as much as I can.
