I just purchased a 1957 Farmall tractor that is wired 6 volt and may not have been run for several years. What parts should be replaced before I try to start the tractor? Thanks

You should remove the spark plugs and squirt generous amounts of automatic transmission fluid into the cylinders before you ever attempt to crank the engine. Wouldn't hurt to change the engine oil and replace the filter. Also would be a very good idea to remove the carburetor, dis-assemble, and give it a good look over and at least a quick cleaning, likewise with the fuel tank and fuel sediment bowl.

On the ignition side of it, at least remove the distributor cap, inspect it, and while it is off, take a look at the contact points. If they look OK, drag a piece of paper between the contacts to clean them up a bit. If the points look worn and corroded, replace them.

Replace parts??? Why till you know what is good or bad. As Rusty says a good soaking with ATF will help a whole lot and free up sticking rings and pre-lube a dry cylinders which is will have. As for replacing parts I would clean up the points and make sure when you open them by hand you both hear and see a spark then go from there. I am working on build a A/B taking parts form 3 and building one and I have so far not replaced any parts with new stuff including the points which I filed and reset. I also did the ATF thing to it
