Im working on a 606 ta. Either going to put a new one in or a elimination kit. Curious about the clutch disk spline. It will move in and out about a inch. When it is pulled out the splines will not engage. Also it will turn one way and not the other. I understand pulling out the shaft may be disengaging the splines and may be normal, but dont understand the refusal to turn backwards. Tractor is split of course. The tractor is being fixed because it would not move in either range. Just curious what is shot in the ta before I pull it all the way out to replace. Thanks ED

Check the splines on the shaft and the coupler at the TA.

You would have to have major problems with the TA in order for it not to work in either range. The fact that when you get the shaft to engage the splines it will only turn in one direction is an indication that the ramp and rollers in the TA are working. That is normal for TA equipped tractors. It is what causes shifting problems when the TA is not adjusted properly.
