H carb wont stop leaking

I bought a rebuilt carburetor for my 49 H awhile back, with a bit of tuning it ran great, but the bottom of the air/fuel screw always had a drop of gas on it when running, and if you left the gas turned on at the tank the carb would drip pretty badly.

After going back and forth with a few things to try (float level, float valve, etc) the rebuilder agreed to send me another carb to try... I put it on this morning and it leaks even worse, this one is leaking above the air/fuel screw out that little vent hole. At times its streaming gas out of it!

Whats going on with these carbs? I'm not sure what else to try.

Thanks
Paul

The needle isn't closing, period.

Most likely cause is the float is hanging up on the side of the bowl.

There isn't a whole lot of wiggle room for the float inside the carb. If that float gets tweaked even just a little, it will hang up on something.

Worst part of it is, you can't tell if the float is going to hang up or not because you can't see inside the carb when it's assembled.

I had a problem where the float would hang up and hold the needle CLOSED. Took it apart 4 times before I got it straightened out.

The guy who did the rebuilding knows not what he is doing. Send it back, at his expense, and tell him to replace the packing gland with a genuine packing, not just some "make do" stuff.

I have had Rustyfarmall rebuild a few carbs for me and have never had any problems with them. He does excellent work!.

Yeah I see him highly recommended all over the antique tractor forums... unfortunately I bought my carb elsewhere before hearing about him. :?

I'll check the float on the new one tonight and see if it looks like its rubbing anywhere.

I checked the float level and cleaned the float valve on the new one... couldn't really tell if the float was rubbing the bowl or not. Still leaks. I've asked the rebuilder for a refund, I'll order a rebuilt from Rustyfarmall. I'm tired of working on these.

Rustyfarmall, where's the best place to order a rebuilt carb from you? Ecrater?

Thanks
Paul
