I have an idiot light for amps on this tractor and it has started blinking, it does not stay on it just blinks, at pto speed it stays off. Before I start checking things out I thought I would see if anyone else had this experience.

The stock bulb is a flasher bulb, got your attention didn't it??

Sounds like your generator is weak and needs to be checked or rebuilt.

Both the alternator equipped and generator equipped 504 tractors have an external regulator.
Both have brushes in the rotating part of the Gen/Alt.
I would look to replacing the brushes in either as a first attempt. New bearings and a dressing up of the commutator (gen only) are wise as well.
Checking the charge voltage will also indicate issues.
14.2 to 14.6 is good at 3/4 throttle with a Gen, above idle with a alternator.

First place I'd check is that fan belt 'cause it sure sounds as tho it's slipping.

If the belt is good and tight, think you have lost a leg on the stator. Kind of unusual on a farm tractor tho as they just don't have much of a heavy load demand.
