OT- Other Red Tractor

Worked on the other Red tractor (Avery A) this past weekend. Drained the transmission/differental, then read the manual and it states to use 60W oil. What should I use if I can not get 60W oil? :?:

This is not meant to be a smart a$$ answer, but something I have considered before, and have done with hydraulic oils.

Being as this is an old tractor (thus the lube oils were not very sophisticated at that time) and it has no hydraulic functions, but needs a hefty oil for the gears, I'd consider using a 90 wgt gear oil, diluted with 30 wt motor oil. But considering the age and wear on the parts, I'd be real tempted to fill it up with 85w-90 GL5 and call it good.

I am not an expert on this issue, so I throw this out only as a point for further discussion.

That is what we were thinking. We are brainstorming for ideas with our thoughts of gear oil (75w90 or 80w90). Anything is better than what we drained out (black tar).

Is the 60W spec for motor oil? Transmission lube oils are rated different than engine oils. 50 weight engine oil is roughly the same as 90 weight transmission lube. I'm sure that 90 weight GL5 oil will work just fine for you.
