Farmall H pops out of fith gear.

probably the gears are wore. my experiance is it is ussually 4th gear that does this, i have changed both the top and lower 4th gear on a m and a super h. im sure you will find that the gears are wore and will have to replace them.

I know of a lot of guys that have had great luck just bending the fork a little. Pull the belt pulley gear box and you'll have access there. I've seen guys put a lot of pressure on the fork, so much that I'd think it would break. I'd say give that a try...I think you'll be pleased with the results.

It could be that the pilot bearing is going out. When it goes the mainshaft is no longer parallel with the rest and it will pop out of gear.

In any case you can do an easy visual inspection by removing the belt pulley or cover (whichever you have).

depends on what you call easy. need to pull trans cover off. could be bent fork, shift rail, or detent spring.

Has to be pretty bad for 4th to pop out. The ones I have are worn about 30%, still work fine. 5th is not a gear, it is a splined shaft that engages another shaft--direct drive, no gear reduction. These can and do wear, but the most common cause is wear on the shift forks.

My 52 H did the same thing. I pulled the top cover and found a worn bearing that allowed the gear assembly to drop down just enough to not stay in gear. Shift rail was also worn. I "adjusted" the shift arm with a torch and put it back together until I could afford to do it right. It has worked fine ever since. Some day maybe I'll tear it down and fix it right.

you can pull the front shaft out of the tranns without too much trouble and get to all three bearings--two different ones in the spline and carrier bearing at the end of fifth gear

My 44 H jumps outta 5th too... all other gears are fine. I only run in 5th once in a blue moon...so i just use a bungy cord, wrap it around the seat support and hook both ends on the shifter...no more jumping out of 5th.
