H Farmall Carburetor Question

I just rebuilt the Carb on my Farmall H.
Now I need to adjust it. Need to know where to start on adusting the 3 adjustment screws. How many turns do you turn the Idel Throttle Adjusting Screw to the Govenor, The Idel Adjusting Screw and the Fuel Adjusting Screw. I set them all at 1 1/2 turns, but the H is running rough at that setting.

I don't know them off-hand, but I know that question has been answered a number of times in this forum, so a search will probably get the answer pretty quick.

It should be illegal to work on a tractor without the proper manuals (I don't really care if there are negative comments, the books are smarter than I am). And instructions are in the archives, you have to sort through a lot of stuff, but they are there. Having said that, the initial idle mixture is 1 turn out, main jet adj about 2.5 to 3 turns out. That allows the tractor to start, but you are not done yet. Let the engine warm up, adjust idle mixture in or out until smooth, adjust the idle speed so that it is fast enough not to stumble. Advance the throttle to max speed, turn the main adjusting screw in until the rpm begins to drop, then out until smooth, maybe 1/4 turn more. Lean (in) is better than rich (out). Reduce rpm to idle and rapidly advance to WOT. It should not stumble. If it does repeat the adustment of both idle and main mixtures. If it does not accelerate smoothly, and the you are sure the ignition is ok, you still have carburator problems. DO NOT adjust as some do, main adj out until it smokes, then in until the smoke stops, that will leave your mixture too rich.

Ok I'll guess your carb kit didn't have good instruction and you do not have a manual either am I right?? Ok any how the way I do it most of the time is this. The idle screw which is close to the top where it bolts to the manifold I set at 1.5 turns out and since I almost never run one at idle I leave it that way and I set the main jet at 3 turns out. Then from there you have to adjust if for where you live. I.E. a carb set to run where I live will not run well in Denver CO. A good kit will give you instructions as to how to set one up so it is close before you bolt it on. Plus on this type carb you have to get the gov. in sink with the carb so the manual is almost a have to have thing

1 1/2 turns is correct for only the idle air adjustment, but is close enough on the others that the tractor should be running smooth. If your H is running rough, either you did NOT do a good job on the carburetor rebuild, or you have other issues that are non fuel related. 75% of any carburetor problems can usually be cured with a set of new spark plugs, plug wires, points, condensor, etc., or maybe a new ignition coil.

Thanks for the help.
Carb Kit was suppose to be a complete Kit. It did have all the necessary parts, but didn't include instructions on how to adjust the carb. I have a parts manual for the H, but no service manual. I will be getting that next.

A carb kit is not complete without instructions. I don't care how many pieces are in the package, if it doesn't include a full set of instructions, and very few do, it is not complete.

Ain't that the truth. I played with my carb for 6 months trying to get my M to run right before I finally put a set of points and condesor in it, that solved all of my problems and it runs smooth as can be now.
