Hi,

Does anyone have a paint color for the rims on a Farmall? That silver color? My front rims were accidently painted red (the guy thought everything was red) and I want to match it as close as I can.

I'd appreciate a color and the brand of paint. I probably only need a spray can of it. Two a most.
 
Many on the board have recommended Silver Argent available at IH dealer and I have also seen it - hope I am correct here - at Blain's Farm~Fleet. The color is more dull than aluminum.
 
Another option you may want to consider is having them powder coated. There are a lot of shops doing that these days and it might surprise you how cheap it is.

When I had my tires demounted it exposed the original galvanized finish. I cleaned it up the best I could and we matched that to the powdercoat color. I was extremely pleased with the result. Not only do I have what I feel is as close to the original color but it is also a finish that will last way longer than paint.

Get a quart of the Silver Argent from your IH dealer. Add a hardener and give them 4 good coats inside and out. Total cost $20.00

I have used Rustoleum Aluminum and Rustoleum Navy Gray and had a pretty decent combination and it seems to wear well(about 20 years)and still looks good. I have also used the IH Silver Argent which has more gloss that the Rustoleum combination. The jury is still out on durability of Silver Argent.
 
On this forum I had read that rims were originally galvanized, so I had mine hot dip galvanized. Only later I learned that IH originally electrogalvanized the rims (which explains that the protective layer was gone after 50 years).
My rims will certainly last a long time ;-) and they look good, so I'm happy.
 
I didn't care for the original red rim. This has three coats of Silver OMNI URETHANE 35489.
