Re-torquing head bolts on 1940 A

Got my A put together yesterday enough to start and enough today to drive around some and get it warm. I ran it enough last night to get warm and there were a couple of antifreeze seeps around the head gasket this morning. I know you need to re-torque the head bolts after it is warm. Do I need to wait until it is cool to the touch or do it when it is warm? I only went to 65 ft lbs as that is what my manual called for the first time. I have since seen on here and webers website I need to go to 80.

I have an B/A I am building and as per the book I did the 65ft/lbs also. What I also did was got it warm and checked the torque both when warm and also when it had cooled and it stayed the same so I figure I am good to go

Yes, the original manuals said to torque them to 65 ftlbs, later manuals call for 80 ftlbs. I understand that the difference is the modern head gaskets need the head to be tighter.

I make mine 80 ftlbs, then get it warm and retorque to 80 again. I always get a little more when it is warm.

It needs to be torqued to 80 Ft Lbs as the others have stated. I hope you also coated your gasket with copper coat or silver paint before installation to. If you didn't its going to continue to seep.
