Farmall M hood

I have a M that the hood doesnt line up with anything. The hood is 38 and a quarter inches long and there is a three quarter inch gap between the hood and the front gill. I can only get two of the four hood latches to hook. I am just wondering how long of a hood should be on it.

The hood will be correct. The difference is in the placement of the radiator. You may have to loosen the support rods and adjust the rad back the difference you are noticing. The bottom bolts may have to be loosened and the rad shifted back slightly in their holes. IH only made one hood for M's, knowing the hood is correct you need to start adjusting..H's are the same way, letter series with Dzus fasteners.
 
If it is a plain M it should adjust as below. If it is a SMTA, or diesel, the hood of an M will not be correct in length. (the diesel would also have a misplaced hole for the exhaust.) Jim
 

Some times the radiator can't be moved enough to make a perfect fit.

Remove the radiator and look at the slots in the cast iron bolster. You may have to take a bur on a air grinder and clean them up , casting flash.
