what model is it

I have a IH and it has no emblems on it to tell me what it is. The serial number plate has a 4401 then a long space then a -J- I think? Might be a -U- and not any other numbers. I was told by the original owners it was a 424. The grill front looks like a 340 more than any thing else. The transmissoin looks stretched and makes it a long tractor and skinny at the transmission. I have tried to figure out by looking at the other models 240 340 404 that are similar in the parts at case IH but no luck.

I posted the pic in the identify section but it only takes one photo. I also added the numbers off the engine, trans and the mid section.

It looks like either a 1958 I-240 or a 1959 I-340 to me. You need to determine engine size to determine which one.

The 240 is the ONLY Utility model with that sheet metal and the skinny 4-speed transmission. The 340 has the C-135 engine, a wider transmission with 5 or 10 speeds and a totally different steering arrangement. The 404 has the C-135 engine, different sheet metal and rear lift system. The 424 has still bigger engines in gas AND diesel, different sheet metal and steering.
