Which muffler did the 856 come out with ? The one I had years ago had the round one like an 806 but I see there is an oval one available.Would the oval one be any quieter ? It has a straight pipe now and that has to go the poor guy that had it is probably deaf if he used this tractor very much.

You can use either one. The round muffler was used on the CUSTOM models and gassers.

The Oval would be best if you want it to be quiet.

Dad's 856 Diesel, not a custom, came from the factory with a round muffler.

My brother now owns that tractor and it still has the factory muffler on it.

The oval mufflers that were on the 66 series seemed to crack and fall apart rather quickly.
Happened to our 966 before 2000 hours.

Think it came out with the round one; however, you could use either.

I'd sure be for getting the extension on the muffler as well. Sure makes a difference! :>)

The 856 LP came with a round one. The diesel and the gasser had an oval one, part #530578R3. According to the parts manual.

My diesel had the round one. Believe it to have been factory installed. Changed it to an oval one, not much difference. Still has to be the LOUDEST tractor I have ever driven.

As I recall the 56 series came out with round mufflers. The oval mufflers came out with the 66 series tractors and many of the older tractors were retrofitted with them as the round ones went bad or replaced in favor of the oval ones. Personally, I don't care for the look of the oval mufflers on the 56 & older series tractors but that just personal taste.
