working on the loss of power problem and engine quitting at low idle...found alternator belt real louse..while adjusting twisted off bolt..since already in there decided to replace radiator hoses...they appear to be homemade...looking to replace i found out why..the top hose looks like i can get..but the bottom is wild...its about 12ins long and 90 degree turn about half way...found out this tractors super a motor was replaced with 140..does anyone know if thats the reason the replacement hose does not look right? the 140 lower hose does not look right either..the radiator top and bottom is 2in openings

Most Super As do not have a water pump. It was added late in production, 1953 as I recall.

All 140s have a water pump, because they're mechanically identical to the last Super A-1s.

Odds are you're running the thermosiphon radiator with a water pump engine.

thanks mkirsh...could i still have the super a radiator and thats why the bottom hose has 90 degree turn from the block to radiator? iam somewhat lost here. i live in va and get to de once in awhile to work on these tractors.

I think you are missing a piece. The bottom hose on my 1966 140 has two straight hoses off the block and rad with a complicated cast elbow in between. The elbow has a recess in it that the fan belt goes through. Check the CIH parts diagram for a '66 140, I'm sure they show it. It would be a real pain to try to link block and rad with a 90° hose with that fan belt in the way.

TheDurk...thanks for your response..the current hose is about 12 ins long with 90 degree that goes from block to rad and has a retainer type assembly to keep off fan. the openings are 2in at rad and 1.5 at block. they have to be constructed from kit as no manufactured one is made. the kit has short pieces that insert into some type of 12in hose with 90. sounds crazy but i spent hrs yesterday looking for hoses.

Just sayin'---the stock setup on a 140 uses the elbow I am talking about (#8 ) plus a 4"x1 3/8" short straight hose (#6) and a short straight 2" hose (#9). These used cast elbows are out there on the net for like $50 if you want to do it like a 140--less if you can find one in a boneyard. The hose part is easy if you have the elbow.

Are you sure that 1 1/2" on the block is not 1 3/8"?

now i see, you r right whats missing on my tractor is the iron elbow. someone has used a makeshift rubber elbow with inserts in the ends. got a kit from yesterdays tractor with incerts and bought a new elbow hose to see if i can make do until. can you shed any light on the " Wittek" hose clamps that came with the kit? I see no way to tighten or adjust them.

These things?? Just keep screwing down and it will cinch up the band.

You STOLE my user name....! I assume that was not your intent.

no kidding! had no idea....just couldn't think of a handle...small world after all. I think i might have found a elbow for the Super A/130/140. I've got to get back to De to refresh my memory of the disasembly area on the tractor. The elbow i found looks like it bolts to block..as i recall the makeshift hose i removed went over an outlet on the block...boy ol boy..old brains and old tractors...what a combo! thanks for the info on the clamp.

(quoted from post at 09:18:14 11/02/10) my oh my did it again...sorry about that...did u receive my last?

...uhhh....how would I know if I didn't?? ...but it looks like it. 140 elbow does not 'bolt up' it just sits in the middle of the hose.
