farmall 400 orginal system 6volt or 12volts

I have a Farmall 400 gas and it has a 12 volt system. My parts manual shows a 6volt with a postive ground. I have read that the later 400 gas come with 12 volts like the diesel. How can I tell which one came with the tractor? I believe it to be 6 volts as the fuse was removed by the previous owner, and the amp. gauge reads backward. The tag has been painted over and I need to get something to remove the paint, lightly sanding reveals 35020 B or maybe R but that doesn't match with the data for the 400. Any suggestions will be appreciated thank you John.

don't believe all of what you hear. all 400 gasoline tractors were six volts only the late 450's came with twelve volt systems.

450 Serial Number 501 to 11803 are six volt. 11804 and up are twelve volt.
