It runs but still a lot more to do (BA)

Yep got the piston problem fixed and the head on today. Hot wired it and use a small tank for fuel and got it to start. Smokes pretty bad right now but I figured it would since I had ATF in the cylinders. Carb has a problem with the float sticking or the needle not seating as it should but that was to be expected. Still have to put on all the cooling system stuff and valve cover etc etc etc. But at least I did get it to start and run for a few minutes so now on to the stuff that really takes a lot of time to do and also have to wire it since it has NO wires on it right now

Jim you know me well enough to know I just keep chipping away on one and sooner or later it give up and works LOL. I figure when it is all said and done this with pretty much be a self propelled sickle bar mower nothing more and I plan to add hyds by way of a power steering pump so as to lift the sickle mower easily Also have a set of duals on one side and wheel weights on both side who who know what else I might do to it to make it work better for what I am building it to do

The A i found in Mo had an engine mess up bad two pushrods werent even making contac with the rocker. Got tappets set then had smoke and miss but after changing plugs cleanin and so forth ended up with D21. Used it in the garden all summer and now it runs great. The AD 87 is a hotter plug also sounds like it jusst needs to be usedsome more.

Ya right now this thing has miss matched plugs in it and plug wires that I just picked up out of the junk pile etc etc etc. This is a tractor I am trying to get back up and running and spending as little on it as I can just to see if I can do one old school like my grand father would have had to do back in the 30s and 40s. Sort of fun doing it this way and seems that if you work at it enough and try to recycle stuff you can in fact make one run with just used parts and pieces

Ya most of my buildings are made the same way cost very little to build because I used salvage type stuff to build them and most are steel so no problems with lighting around my place I have 2 or 3 extra large lighting rods LOL

One wire at a time and you will get it running good. I have the gov gear with missing teeth so i took off the wts and chuck the shaft in the electric drill then i can put the mag in a vise and check out spark, wires, plugs that way helps figuring out the problems. When you get a well used one you just dont realy know what you have and it saves a lot of messing around so when ya gets it in the engine ua gots something. Congrats on beating those SOONERS what a game. I was in Col a few yrs ago to watch them beat A@M Son in law was in KC running a sports station and we had tickets. You never said if you have any wts for rear wheels cause getting rim and center set out you will move the left side out 10 in

My jeep is an example:
1957 CJ3B with 1950 ihc K series cab
Warn hubs, Toyota Tercel rack and pinion, Taurus tie rod ends and a bronco fuel tank.
Fun. Jim

I have 2 pressed steel centers that I will have one dished in and the other dished out so duals on the left side with a wheel weight on the outer dual and then on the right side I'll have a cast center and a wheel weight and just a single tire on the right. It will look a little odd with 3 tires on back but to me it will be just fine. Once I have it up and running like I want it I'll mount the sickle mower to it and then fine tune it and see if I can add hyd lift to it instead of hand lift

You wont have any problems you could even add two wts on the left you do need to move the right wheel out for the lift leveras it goes between the wheel and fender they dont lift that hard but its not hard to mount a power steering pump on the generator belt. Thats if you have a welder and some iron.

On this A rear end the hand lift is mounted on the inside of the fender on that side, would have to go out to be sure what side but it is there right now. If all goes well maybe this one will be one my wife likes but probably not. She keeps saying I need to find a tractor for her but every time I think I have found one she say well this or that will not work for me
