Super A misses

I.ve been working on a 49 Super A that was converted to a battery ignition and I wanted to return it to original so I rebuilt the magneto replacing the plugs. wires, cap, rotor button. set the new points to .0015 thought I did everything right. Started on the 3rd pull. Did the rough timing and it runs fine at idle but pops back through the carb once in a while. Under load or when you open the throttle the missing gets worse. Getting plenty of gas but the adjustment on the Zenith carb seems to have little or no effect on it. Didn't go into the engine so I don't believe I changed anything regarding the timing. Any help or advice would be appreciated

forgot to mention I don't think the governor works properly. The spring arm was put in upside down and the spring came off, repaired that but I think I have a linkage problem. Binding a little not allowing smooth movement

The points are set at .013" that will probably make a difference, as the mag internal timing is as important as engine timing. If set to .015, the opening will be early and primary winding mag coil saturation will be incomplete.
Set it to .013 and try it. Also if no success, put the distributor back on to see if the issue goes away. Mags do not have centrifugal advance, so there will be roughness issues that are cured with a point/coil system. Point and coil was (I believe) an option so it would be considered stock. Jim

I'll try that. When I got this tractor it hadn't been run for a couple of years and I don't know how well it ran before it was parked. Thanks
