Factory TA delete[effect on value]

Depends on where you are.

In the South, a TA delete tractor is more desirable as a working tractor due to the type of operator employed on large farms. One less thing for the complacent operators to destroy, I guess.

Around here, a smart buyer will factor the cost of a TA replacement into what they'd be willing to pay for a tractor. As Cowman says, you can't trust them to be working; they're usually worn out.

That said, a factory TA delete tractor would be worth even LESS around here because the TA is a desirable option, especially on a working tractor. Hills and variable ground conditions make the TA indispensable.

i would think it should bring the value up a bit.the t.a. is something that you dont miss, and i dont even think of using it on the early tractors.the t.a.s were abused anyhow.

I am more positive about TA systems than that.
I expect them to work, and would not purchase a Farmall that had the delete option. Purchasing one not working would be price reduced such that I could fix it. They are as handy as a handle on a knife.
I further believe that a correctly used TA reduced the repair requirements on the master clutch. This is due to using the TA to shift down rather than stopping and downshifting then starting from a dead stop under tillage loads.
our 350U has seen dramatic use and is still working with its original clutch and TA.

I tend to agree with an auctioneer that annouced that TA Out was a factory option. Some people say they will last forever if taken care of but others can not get them to last for long. May be operator abuse or may be that they are very fragile. We never had trouble with Massey Multi Power tractors with pick up where we could get them drivers.

If I was buying, yes. Mike at Steel Wheel Ranch has(had?) a decent 300 with no TA and a transmission driven PTO. I didn't buy it, but bought a stage 2 Super M instead. Although I use my 460U very little, 3rd TA and 4th TA are the best speeds for what I use it for. I do not agree with the opinion of some people that they were not designed to be used in TA for long periods of time. Although handy for short periods of use under heavy pull, the additional speeds are what I like. The TA was the forerunner of the 8 speed up powershifts on most makes of tractors.

I agree, the TA if used and cared for correctly will last a long time. Dad bought a 350 new, and we used it hard (3-16 plow) and plowed about 75 percent of the time in low sode if TA. Abut the second year it started slippping a little so dad asked the dealer about it. he said to change the Hy-tran every year, which we hadn't done. no problems after that and it probably lasted 10 years before needing work on it.
Years ago I worked for anIH dealer who traded in a 706 Diesel without a TA. Only TA-delete I have seen.
