H Generator Change Out

I finally have located a generator for my 51H and have two questions that need answered in order to complete the change out.

1. The pulley on the new genny is larger than the one on the automotive genny that was on the tractor when I got it. Thus, the belt won't fit. What is the correct size for the genny belt?

2. The top bracket does not have enough adjustment to allow for proper tensioning of the belt. In the full out position, the bracket bolts are 6" apart. I can only rotate the genny about a 1/2" - 3/4" towards the engine block. I'm wondering if the bracket is not the original. What length bracket should I have? How much adjustment do I need in case I have to have a bracket made to fit?

Once again, thanks for the help.

there are adjustable pulleys for the generators. the pulley will screw in and out to adjust the belt tension, like the water pump pulley on the h or m. here is one i found on ebay that has the adjustable pulley
poke here

The original generator brackets mount the generator in a "fixed", or solid position. The generator DOES NOT move in or out for adjusting the tension on the belt. The belt tension is adjusted by moving the pulley halves closer together, to make the belt tighter, or by moving the halves further apart, to loosen the belt for changing.

What generator are you going to use now and what regulator. Do you need the adjustable pulley thats used on the H. There should be a tag on the gen with a Delco Remy #.

I went to carquest and got a belt that was the perfect length without having to adjust anything. If you wanna go down that road get a piece of string and cut it to length around where the belt goes. then it should be close enough to just adjust it like the guys above said if neccesary

Rusty, I need an original fixed generator brace arm for my '47H. Do you have one or know where I can find one. The brace installed now is sloted and I would like to find an original one with just two holes and the slight offset bend. Thanks for any info...Ed

I might have one. Seems like I did clean one up a few years ago and then I put it somewhere?? I'll go digging.
