I have a tank heater I want to install on my IH 434. where are the best places to make the connections? I see the radiator has a tap on the bottom tank for the cold water connection where is the best place for the hot side to be connected to?

Hi Roy, I assume the 434 is a BD-154 Diesel engine.
To make a tank heater work, it must circulate the water in the engine block. The bottom of the tank heater (cold water) can be taken from the drain tap hole in the side of the block just above the starter. The top of the tank heater (hot water) can be connected to the thermostat bypass pipe in the water pump. If you have an older water pump assembly there is no thermostat bypass pipe. We had early B414 and 434 that had no thermostat bypass pipe. The later 384 that we had a thermostat bypass and the dealer installed a tank heater.
On the B414 and 434, we installed an inline heater in the lower rad hose.
