BN/A questions

Ok so some of you know I am taking 2 Bs and one A and building a tractor. I will be using the front of the B on the A rear end. So now the question is the BN and the A the same width in the rear or is the BN wider then the A or the A wider then the BN?? Never been around a BN so I can not be sure how wide one is and if maybe I'm just in fact making a BN out of the parts I have on hand instead of a BA.
Thanks

The B and BN are both wider than an A because they have a long axle on the left side which make it a centered two row tractor whereas the A only has a long axle on the right side which makes it a offset one row tractor. The transmission section of the tractors are the same.

As far as I know, the A is the same distance from the PTO to the right hub as the BN, but the axle housings are not the same part number. That distance on the B would be 4 inches longer.

I think I'd be scared it would want to roll over whenever you turn left. Might consider having your mother-in-law test drive it first. ;o)

Well it does have the wheel weight on the right side to hold it down plus been thinking about putting duals on the narrow side just for the heck of it since I have extra tires and rims for it

Old,I happen to see a lady that has done very good at pulling with a modified SA. Her husband has biult I think it is the SC motor triycle front on SA tranny and rear. He has stamped dish wheels but custom pulling draw bar and weight brackets they do run a 100 lb weight way to the right side. Don't think I would like to drive it across a hill but on flat ground and track it look fine. oldiron29

Old,There is a man who lives about a hour away that has done this for years,I think He used the rear of the SA and the front of the B,installed belly mowers on them and sold them for 5000.bucks,They were good mowing tractors, with hyd.

As mentioned, the rear wheels are pretty narrow for a NF tractor, heavy wheel or not. I would set the rear wheels as wide as they will go. Why don't you put a wide front on the B, instead, if you want something different. Pictures of those look kind of neat, I have never seen one.

The length of the diff housing is the same on the A and BN The BN housing has the two bosses for mounting attachments underneath by the tranny. The A housing doesent have them but the length is the same. You can set the left wheel out so dont worry. Ive put some mowers on that set-up and they work great as you can ever add a wheel wt on the left side either on the inside or the outside of the center section. You could use two wts if you wanted to.

It has the wheel weight on the left as it sits right now so I should be ok there but still think if I can I might just for the heck of it put duals on the right side which would make it harder to lay over if of course it does not get in the way of a sickle bar mower

Well this A took a ride down a hill with out a person on it or so the story goes. Guy who owned it stopped to pick up something just to look back and see the A rolling down a hill and it stopped when it hit a tree. That in turn broke the front axle housing and the engine its self so the tractor was dragged off the tree in pieces. A steering box is broken the axle is broken engine is broken but the rear end is still good

The mower is on the right side so you want the duals on the left. You need to move the right drivers side out a little for the lifting leveras it goes outside of the fender between the tire and fender then reversing the center on the left then you could add one wheel wt on the outside and another on the inside of the center section you would be stable for balance.

I think it's going to be surprisingly stable, no less stable than a conventional A.

You need to wedge the wide front end of an A before you remove either rear wheel, or the tractor will tip over. What does that tell you? It tells me that the wide front end doesn't do diddly for stability.

Gene I meant to say dual on the left side not the right LOL so yep my other right is where I want to dual or should I say I want the dual on the side that is the narrow side so to flip it it would have to lift its self on 2 tires instead of just the one

Yep one of those myths that a wide front really is what keeps a tractor from flipping over but once you reach the limits of movement in the wide front you will still flip simple and true but I think it is more the between the guys ears that makes if not flip as easy type deal
