H starter problem??

I have my grandfather's 51' H. It had not run in about (5) years, but I have it running. I do have to pull it though to start it. The battery is good, the starter engages, but stops after turning over slow for a second. I have taken the starter off and hooked up the the battery and the engages and spins.

Any suggestions or help?

Thanks in advance

Check to make sure that you have a nice shiny post on the starter. Also check where it grounds to the body. If neither of those work I would say that you need new brushes on the inside of the starter

Testing a starter the way you did only says it will spin with no load. Take it to an auto parts store and have it checked cost nothing other then your time and fuel to do so and they can load test it. Sounds like a very weak starter or bad battery connections on the tractor

Thanks to all who responded. I am going to work on all connections tonight. I have already spoke with a local shop about re-building.

I will update all on progress
