need to find the hydraulic drain for a 300 utility

I'm helping a friend work on his 300 utility and we can't seem to locate the drain for the hydraulic fluid. Does anyone have a picture or a description the could share?

Thanks for the help.

In the reservoir at the front right corner below where the front control valves are, or would be, located. It is pretty small, and located where there is no good way to keep it from being messy.
A rubber or vinyl hose screwed into the threads can help get oil into a container. A pipe would also work to get the oil away from the side of the tractor casting. (Best of my memory) Jim

Hi -

Assuming you're referring to the hydraulic oil reservoir drain plug, I have a 300 Utility and the plug on mine is in a different place than Jim describes.

I've seen enough of Jim's posts to know that he knows his stuff, so I assume his tractor and mine just happen to be different.

If I recall correctly, I've described "my" location on this site so it should be in the archives. It's also shown in Illustration 70A on page 70 of the operator's manual.

I just looked through 213 posts of yours over the last 3 years and didn't see it. Could you post a link or describe it again.

Thanks.

On the International 300 that I'm restoring there is a 3/8 pipe plug on the left side of the reservoir under the anchor for the hitch cylinder. Kind of hard to see, you need to stand on your head just to see the pipe plug.

On the I-300 parts tractor that I used for lots of stuff this same port was being used for the return oil from the power steering unit to flow back to the reservoir. On that tractor I disconnected the power steering line to drain the oil.

Happy hunting.

Hi -

I did a search for RUMPLESTILTSKIN PLUG and it turned up the following (must be my lucky night).

The first entry shown (5/3/2010) is probably the best one for specifying the exact location, but either entry should get you in the neighborhood.

231 posts? I didn't realize I was such a bigmouth! :)

From 5/3/2010:

Facing the left side of the tractor, starting at the center of the brake drum, measure 9 inches along a line running toward the front of the tractor but 45 degrees up from horizontal. If yours is like mine, you'll have a square-headed plug there.

From 5/1/2009:

The drain plug is in the left side (not the top) of the reservoir. It’s sort of straight down from the outer edge of the top of your left thigh. On my 300U it has a square head; on my 350U it has a hex head. You’ll love the way it dribbles the fluid down the side of the tractor! I’m considering replacing mine with nipples and caps next time I have them out.
