F-14 - moving those 'hard to move' wheels

The wheels on my F-14 were set right in close to the seat and had been there for quite a number of years. To move them out we resorted to a jack as follows:

We oiled the shaft and put penetrating oil around the hub clamp. When we came round to removing the wheels a couple of weeks later to change the oil seals, they came off easily (without the need for the jack :D )

When I switched the ones on my 14 from steel, I loosened the bolts and ran the "spreader" bolts on one side and it slid off fine, the other side didnt want to budge. I wanted to try something like that, but my hubs were cracked already and didnt want to make it worse. Took a week of soaking in PB to get them to finally move. Neat job!

Hi Fawteen, no all my tractor is factory original as far as we can tell. It seems to have been shed stored all its life. Someone has at some point given the starting tank and hood a coat of zinc based primer, which accounts for the grey shade.

Kind regards
