Wheel change on 560W

I want to put 34 or 38" centers on my 560W. Axle is splined instead of key ways. I did see one recently with 38's, he used one spline for the key way, and used a regular 560 center. I was concerned about all the stress on one spline. Is there a better way (other than changing axles)?

Aren't there TWO keyways on a 560 wheel?

What is the reason for putting the taller tires on the tractor? It's geared for the shorter tires, and will be much too fast.

The row crop has one keyway, at least my 460 does. I don't know about the wheatland version.

Some Farmall wheels have two keyways, some have one- I don't know which is which, but the Wheatland 560 has 6 splines instead of keyways. I use the tractor for pulling, and the taller tires work much better than the 30" I have now. I can't go wider since some of the places I pull have an 18.4 limit, so I need to go taller. Gearing is not an issue with my current power.

Yeah, Dad's W-400 has the 6-spline axle too...

IIRC, the old Farmall 560 had two keyways in the axle. That'd be better than one keyway at least.

If you weren't doing heavy pulling, I'd say go for it, but my worry here is that the axle is designed to pull through all six splines, not just the one. All that power is going through one spline, instead of half the axle like on a Farmall.

At a recent pull, a puller with a W6 with a similar splined axle had cut and turned the spoked cast center down to function as a nine bolt hub and installed tin rims for weight savings. A pretty ambitious project requiring a decent sized lathe. They looked almost factory made. Mark

Would like to run tin wheels, but most the pulls I go to require cast centers. I could weld a ring inside a 34 or 38" rim to bolt directly to the current wheel studs, but I really want it to look as factory as possible. If I could find a pair of centers with two keyways, I would give that a try.
