The wife and I took a nice drive in the country this past weekend. Is there any place more beautiful than the coulee country of western Wisconsin in October??? Came across alot of old iron too!

i was up in door county wis this weekend, nice area up there. quite a bit of corn in the fields yet, lot of guys chopping silage. saw a real nice super c on highway 42 in two rivers, and a 2+2 for sale near manitowoc. big dairy farms up that way !!

Mr. Mayor; You had a splendid day for a drive. SW Wisc. is the most beautiful in my not-so-humble opinion, any time of the year. I can"t quite recall the late Paul Harveys"s words "...the trees are dressed in their autumn splendor..." I love the four seasons. A Sunday drive, maybe some cheese curds, coffee w/pie, a good bar burger with a good beer. Took me a drive to Gays Mills for breakfast, then up to the apple orchards for a bag of Empires and a jug of cider...some good looking women there, classic cars and great apple cider donuts. Old iron, yup, any $$"s burning a hole in your pocket?

We had three perfect days. Covered a lot of back roads in Lacrosse, Trempealeau, Buffalo, Pepin, Vernon and Crawford counties. I"m without a tractor project for the first time in a number of years. Thinking of maybe trying something non IH for a change (I know, sacrilege!). Managed to keep the $$ in my pocket for now. I"ll know when I come across my next project.

As a kid growing up in NE Iowa, we used to take Hwy. 52 from Dubuque to Prairie du Chien along the Mississippi river every fall, and cross over at Marquette to PdC for some cheese and smoked salmon. I don't remember the magazine, but they listed it as one of the 5 prettiest drives in the US. This is just across the river from where you guys are writing about and it is (or was ) really colorful. Last time I was there in the fall, it had been really dry and a lot of the color was not there... mostly a lot of brown.
Most people, including myself, do not take the time any more to enjoy things like that. Last time I did that as a kid, I rode with my girlfriend at the time and her parents, and was more interested in her than the scenery  . Turns out my time would have been better spent looking at the trees and old Farmalls.

Went through LaCrosse once on the way to the in-laws and the country is beautiful any time I can only imagine it this time of year.

Glennster: if you ever get up to Carlsville, go one mile East to Hilltop dairy. They make their own ice cream. Get butter pecan--they don't skimp on ingredients. Big BIG cone for $3.
