Need Help with Farmall Super C

Of all things to go wrong on my super C all the teeth were stripped from my
oiler gear. Its on the shaft with all the speed gears. I"ve read everything in
my shop manual and its not making a lot of since to me. I do know that I have to
break it in half at the gear housing. I haven"t found anything that is clear on
how to disconnect the drive shaft there and I don"t want to guess and make a
mess of it. Also its not clear on how to get the gear out. Once place I read
said that I have to remove the top (sliding) gears through the top of the
housing and then remove the lower speed gears, which means loosening the
differential and removing the rivet at the back of the top shaft. I thought that
I had read that the gear could shaft could be slid out the front of the housing
and and the gears taken off that way. I"m in the middle of planting my food
plots and have to get this done right away. Is there anyone out there that can
help me with some much needed advice?

Thanks, J Harris

I don't have a reply for you but a question. How did you know that this had happend. Mine makes a wierd whirring sound when the tractor is running but sitting in neutral with the clutch out. Push the clutch in or put it in gear and goes away. I always wondered if it might be my oiler gear. I have heard in the past it's not uncommen for them to loose teeth.
Thanks,
Paul

When mine went out it sounded like the entire transmission came apart. I felt it in my feet. It would run fine for a few minutes and then go back to the awful grinding sound. Ive heard a whiring sound sort of like the PTO is engaged in all three of our Super Cs before. I think that its just that over the years the gap in the bevel gear has opened up just a little. Ive never went to the trouble to adjust it. It seems like a pretty big ordeal unless your doing a complete trans. overhaul.

If you dont use the belt pulley you dont need it the other gears in the tranny when moving will throw enough lube around. I did on some time ago split at the front of the trany then remove the top cover its quite a job unless you have a stamd that is on wheels to roll apart. Disconnecting the drive shaft is easy when you get it seperated 6in of so you can remove the bolts. Find a used on you wont like the price of new.

I would just leave it but whats left of the gear is binding up on gear that drives it it sounds like the trans. is coming apart. I did find a used one that is like new. I got an incredible deal on it, 25.00 and also got a good deal on a couple of the sliding gears that are like new and figure I would replace them while I was in there. I have everything ready to go. Ive got the top cover off and the front supported and made an attachment to hook the draw bar to the receiver hitch on my truck to ease the rear end apart from the front end. Were you able to slide the sliding gear shaft out the front or did you have to take everything out through the top to do it?

I had the front supported and the rear on casters so i could roll it back to get the clearence . Also had to replace the left axle shaft seal and clean out the brake assy. I have a shop heated and wlders so forth so i can make what i need to do the work. I do remember it was a job that needed stuff made to get the job done.
