Old IH/McCormick Combines

Toying with the idea of a pull behind combine.
Which models worked well and did a good job cleaning? Were the self-propelled models better?

Grandpa had a McCormick 101 that's still at the home place but It's probably too much work to refurbish vs. finding something else. There's also a 105 (I think) that's been in the same spot for about 30 years. There's a nice 4 inch tree growing between the platform and the header.

I dont think any Intl, or McCormick cleaned well without the scourkleen attachment. Except for the 1482, 1682 pulltypes. Getting into those requires 175 PTO HP to do a reasonable job.

I had 2 IH-82"s, & was well pleased with combining beans; but had to run a grain cleaner attached to the grain bin auger

What size of tractor are you going to power this combine with? There were several different pull type IH combines built and used in western Canada. What type of crops re you planning to harvest?I will list some of the Older ones used here that would work with your tractor hp. if you state what it is. Jim.

Well, the biggest and baddest I have in the lineup now is a Super M that was rebuilt (before I got it) with a 281 kit. It runs well.

I'm looking to use the combine for maize and wheat.

To run a pull type PTO combine you need a live pto on the tractor, or you will be plugged up all the time.My father and uncle had Case K2 and 112 models with engine drive on them to pull with older nonlive pto tractors. They latter had IHC 140's and 150's behind the likes of a 450 IH then 3010 and 3020 JD's.These were nice compact little combines with the same threshing body of the selfpropelled 123/125/127/141/151 machines. We went from the 150 to a 403 Sp. toat present a 2388 which just finished work last thurs.

I do have a SMTA in the works but it will be a way off. I understand how the non-IPTO can be a pain. I use the SM on an IH 2400 round baler and have gotten used to operating it without the convenience.

The 140 gives me something to think about also certainly wouldn't rule out a self-powered unit but I just don't recall ever having seen one.

I didn't know they made a pull behind axial flow. That would be interesting. May be more combine than I need but I bet would work quite well.

Ive got a real nice #76 pull type id make you a heck of a deal on. nice and cherry right out of a 25+ year storage. It would be a great match for your super M
