Leaking Main Jet

Is there a way to seal up a leaking main jet "nut" on the bottom of an M carb without having to take the carb off the tractor? Seems like it just turns and won't get tight.

I'm guessing the main jet is just turning inside the carb and you'd need to hold it to get a tight seal.

I bet you are talking about the nut on nozzle and not main jet. You will have to take off lower bowl to get inside and hold top end of nozzle. The main jet has a packing nut you tighten up which surrounds the needle itself. Nut is threaded into carb and needle is threaded into nut.

Correct. You need a deep well socket to hold the main metering stem. You probably would be time and money ahead to replace the gasket under the metering stem as well as the gasket under the clamp nut.

Will I have to buy a carb kit to get the correct packing/washer for the metering stem and clamp nut? Or would a NAPA or similar store have a good replacement. It appears that the clamp nut just has a rubber washer between it and the carb bowl.
